Our team of specially trained surgeons, cardiologists, technologists and nurses works together to evaluate your condition, tailor your treatment plan, coordinate your procedures and keep you informed along the way. It’s a more fluid, effective approach that results in fewer complications, shorter recoveries and longer-lasting benefits for our patients. It’s why we’re one of the leading hospitals in the nation for cardiac surgery.
Having a heart condition reminds us how precious life is and how quickly it can be taken away from us. When your heart’s at stake, EVERY BEAT MATTERS.
Treating Structural Heart Disease is a complex process requiring that interventional, clinical and surgical skills work together to treat the entire range of conditions that patients present. Having 1 set of specialists work together to address multiple issues is more efficient and effective. We instituted the first and only Structural Heart Program in Central New York, enabling us to achieve better patient outcomes, lower costs and fewer re-admissions.
Structural Heart Disease is a term that encompasses a variety of disorders that affect the heart valves, muscles, and/or walls.
These defects can be present at birth (congenital) or can develop over time. The incidence of developing structural heart disease increases with age as well as in the presence of hypertension, coronary artery disease, certain infections, and cardiomyopathy.
Characterized by damage to or a defect in one of the four heart valves: aortic, mitral, tricuspid, or pulmonic.
Leaks around prosthetic aortic valves.
A problem with the structure of the heart that is present at birth, such as: Patent Foramen Ovale, Atrial Septal Defect and Ventricular Septal Defect.
A condition in which a portion of the heart becomes thickened, making it hard for the heart to pump blood.
Symptoms and severity vary, but the most-common symptoms are:
Our Structural Heart Team, the first and only in Central New York, is comprised of interdisciplinary specialists including, medical and interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesia, clinical affiliates, perfusionists, nurses, a Structural Heart Program Coordinator and supporting staff.
Our Structural Heart Team approach is a new paradigm in Cardiovascular Care in which the team works together to develop the best treatment plan for each patient. The team coordinates their procedures to efficiently address the entire spectrum of pathology that their patient presents. The multidisciplinary approach ensures that our patients will receive the most personal treatment tailored to his/her own condition treatment.
Having multiple issues taken care of by 1 set of specialists working together is more efficient and effective — we are able to achieve better outcomes, lower costs and fewer re-admissions.
